We hope this site becomes a tool for you.
My advice is to keep a positive outlook while you are searching, highlight your qualifications and make connections!

Kelsey- Let's flip your thoughts...
Eagerness and motivation will be your key to opening doors. In your case, a potential employer would be looking at bringing a young, driven person on board. You could be competing with more senior paralegals, who may or may not make that connection in their interview. Who would you want to work with? A person that wants to take on more responsibility? A person that wants to learn how to effectively support the 'team'? We're told to 'pay our dues', but if you have the competitive edge, this is where you will find the most fun.

Hope this helps! Especially for a specialty area, the Association provides a place where we can locate other paralegals who may be able to help.”

Two-term PAP President, Bob Hrouda, has been heading Philadelphia’s 450 member paralegal association this year and staying on top of both local and national issues. “It’s been a busy year with a lot of traveling, especially during the first and fourth quarters. However, Feldman Shepherd, has been great about my time away from the firm,” he said.

Bob’s interest in a legal career began way back in 10th grade with a business law course at Northeast Catholic High. Continuing on through college, Bob served as a library clerk at Schnader Harrison where he remained as a paralegal for 13 years. Today, Bob provides special expertise in litigation support technology and serves as supervisor of the paralegals at Feldman Shepherd.

Of the many PAP events this year, Bob found the Spring Student Forum the most rewarding. “The students are interested in job opportunities and how work experience varies with the different firms. During the forum, we were able to respond to questions from students enrolled at more than a dozen local schools,” he said.

In between working with case assignments, Bob is preparing for more involvement with the national association next year. One of the priority topics is monitoring state regulation of the paralegal profession in various states and keeping an eye on when it will impact Pennsylvania. According to Bob, “Wisconsin and North Carolina have moved ahead with certification requirements, Florida and New Jersey are considering the issue, but so far, we have heard nothing in Pennsylvania regarding regulation or certification.”

WHAT DO YOU THINK? Should a statewide paralegal proficiency exam be required in Pennsylvania? Do you think it would increase your salary level and benefit your work environment? If not, why.
